Twenty-three Irish charities received donations from the Hospital Saturday Fund (HSF) Charitable Trust

Twenty-three Irish charities received donations from the Hospital Saturday Fund (HSF) Charitable Trust at a special event in Dublin’s Mansion House last week, writes June Shannon.

Chief among the beneficiaries was the Irish Osteoporosis Society. On receipt of the donation the Society’s Founder and President Prof Moira O’Brien said it would be used to help increase awareness of “this silent killer”.

In 2008, over €535,000 will be paid out in donations and grants by the HSF Charitable Trust to medical charities for care and research, hospices and hospitals across Ireland and the UK. Assistance is also given to individuals whose illness or disability has caused financial difficulties.

HSF Health Plan, the trading company of the Hospital Saturday Fund, is Ireland’s leading health cash plan operator, providing more than 100,000 Irish contributors, with funds towards everyday medical costs, including routine GP and optical visits, hospital admissions, complementary medicine and personal injury.

More than 500 organisations in Ireland from voluntary, public and private sectors offer HSF Health Plan to their staff.

As a not-for-profit organisation, any surplus funds from HSF Health Plan are returned to the community through the Charity.
